Bayelsa Queens edge out Pacesetters Queens 1-0

Pacesetters Queens challenge to stay afloat in the NWFL Premiership faltered in a toothless 1-0 defeat at home on Wednesday 1st April, 2026, to Bayelsa Queens FC of Yenagoa.

Glory Edet scored the only goal of the contest in the 80th minute at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan, as Bayelsa Queens moved to second position in Group A of the NWFL Premiership with 28 points.

Pacesetters Queens missed goal scoring opportunity in the second half as their efforts were thwarted by the defense and the goalkeeper of the Prosperity Girls, as the home team surrendered to a damaging defeat for their hopes of staying in the NWFL Premiership.

Bayelsa Queens win, the 9th of their past 11 league matches, puts the Prosperity Girls on course to play in the 2025/26 NWFL Super Six.

“We did enough to deserve to win the game,” Bayelsa Queens Technical Adviser Whyte Ogbonda said.

Ogbonda said it was one of their best wins of the season, not in terms of performance but desire and heart.

“Honestly, I must commend the fighting spirit of my girls, their  resilient and determination to get the job done is amazing and they played as a unit”, Coach Whyte Ogbonda added.

Next for Bayelsa Queens FC is a home match against Ibom Angels at the Samson Saisai Stadium, Ovom, Yenagoa, on the 8th of April, 2026.
