Bayelsa Queens FC Succumb to Defeat

Bayelsa Queens FC endured a difficult afternoon at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt, as they lost 1-2 against the run of play against Nasarawa Amazons in the Match-day 2 of the 2025/26 Nigeria Women Football League Premiership Super Six on Monday.

The Prosperity Girls who defied the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium’s atmosphere from the blast of the whistle could not find the back of the net to end the first 45 minutes goalless.

On resumption for the second half, Bayelsa Queens put more pressure on their opponent and were rewarded for their effort as Chiamaka Ezekwugo put the Prosperity Girls in front with a header from Vera Samuel’s corner.

Bayelsa Queens pressed on to get another goal, but it was Nasarawa Amazons that broke the hearts of the girls from Yenagoa with a goal in the 80th minute from Parkikyen Moses, pulling level.

Nasarawa Amazons, however, scored their second and in the 92nd minute when their captain Ayatsea Hembafan, with a shot from 35 yards to beat Linda Jiwuaku in goal for Bayelsa Queens.

The devastating result sees Bayelsa Queens with only 1 point after two matches while Nasarawa Amazons are on 6 points after winning their two games.

Coach Whyte Ogbonda left the Stadium feeling despondent after his team experienced their first defeat of the Super Six at the hands of Nasarawa Amazons as the defeat has significant implications for Bayelsa Queens title aspirations.

‘It was not a bad game. Good intensity. We created a couple of chances, but we could not score. And in games like this, if you don’t score, and make mistakes, you will be punished. Lost one. We were not outplayed’, Coach Whyte said.

“In the first game as well, we did so well. I would have loved a different result, but that’s not the case. If you look at the performance of the players, it is commendable”, Coach Whyte Ogbonda added.

Bayelsa Queens will now shift their attention to Wednesday for their third game against Rivers Angels, which is a must win for the Prosperity Girls.
