Bayelsa Queens maintains title defence with a win over FC Robo Queens

Bayelsa Queens Football Club kept their title defence charge with a convincing 2-0 victory over FC Robo Queens.

The Prosperity Girls came out from the dressing room the better of the two teams as Kindness Ifeanyi finished off a team move to give her side the lead inside the first fourteen seconds of the game.

Five minutes later the duo of Sofiat Bankole and Alaba Olabiyi had golden opportunities to increase the defending champions lead but failed to get their respective chances on target.

FC Robo Queens had more possession in the latter stages of the first half, but Bayelsa Queens defence led by Chiamaka Ezekwugo and Oladeji Oluwabunmi held on to end the first half with a goal lead.

The Lagos based side continued to pile up the pressure in the second half but the Prosperity Girls were resolute in their defending.

Just when it looked like the game would end by a solitary goal, substitute Vera Samuel headed in from close range in the 83rd minute to increase the Prosperity Girls advantage.

Bayelsa Queens technical adviser, Whyte Ogbonda, commended his players for their bravery in the victory over FC Robo Queens.

Whyte admitted that the encounter was difficult.

“It was a difficult match but honestly I commend the bravery of my girls to finally win the game,” Whyte stated in a post-match interview.

“We knew FC Robo would press high and try to maintain the same intensity in the second half. I told my players that we needed to take advantage and they did just that. It’s a fantastic result for the team,” Coach Whyte Ogbonda added.

Action resumes on Sunday at the Adokiye Amesiemaka Stadium in Port Harcourt at Bayelsa Queens will take on Edo Queens.
