Edo Queens FC have won the 2025/25 Nigeria Women Football League Premiership Super Six following a goalless draw against former Champions Bayelsa Queens in the final matchday at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium on Sunday.
Bayelsa Queens entered the decisive fixture needing an outright win to secure the title, while Edo Queens needed a draw.
The Prosperity Girls from the blast of the whistle attacked their opponent and in the 23rd minute, Harmony Chidi beat Ohia Doris in goal for Edo Queens and was brought down by the goalkeeper only for referee Ogbonnaya Peace from Anambra State to look the other way and allowed play to continue.
Bayelsa Queens had so many calls that the referee did not raise an eyebrow and the keenly contested encounter ended goalless.
The result sealed a second NWFL Premiership crown for Edo Queens, It also placed them alongside Bayelsa Queens as the only clubs to have won the league twice within the last six seasons.
For Bayelsa Queens, the defeat marks another heartbreak, as the Prosperity Girls missed the chance to return to WAFU-B stage after their historic 2022 triumph and played in the final in 2025.
Bayelsa Queens Technical Adviser coach Whyte Ogbonda praised his players, but rued missed chances.
“Generally, the team has done well, but I must confess the referee did not help matters,” Coach Ogbonda stated after the game.
