Bayelsa Queens lost to Ekiti Queens

Bayelsa Queens FC on Wednesday fell 0-1 to Ekiti Queens in the matchday 18 of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium in Ekiti State.

A defensive lapse allowed Joke Adeyemo to pounce, lifting the ball over the advancing Linda Jiwuaku in goal for Bayelsa Queens in the 4th minute to hand Ekiti Queens the lead, which was enough to separate both sides, giving the hosts a slender one-nil win over the Prosperity Girls in Ekiti.

The Prosperity Girls went into the encounter looking to end the regular season on a high, but lost their last game by a slim goal margin.

After the goal, Bayelsa Queens battle for control, but clear-cut chances were scarce to end the first half 0-1.

Bayelsa Queens created clear chances, but missed goalscoring opportunities.

In 80 minutes of play, what Bayelsa Queens thought was a goal by Sofiat Bankole, to make it 1-1 was ruled for an off-side

The defeat means Bayelsa Queens ends the regular season on 37 points and still top Group A.

Coach Whyte Ogbonda and his players will now turn their focus to the Super Six, fine-tuning their attacking play and defensive organisation.

Despite the loss, Bayelsa Queens technical adviser Whyte Ogbonda commended his team for their effort.

“It was a good game, I would say. But the result would have been different if we had taken our chances,” Ogbonda said after the game.

Meanwhile, in the President Federation Cup, Bayelsa Princesses lost 1-2 to Ikukuoma Queens of Imo State.
