Bayelsa Queens coach, George Iderikumo, has reaffirmed his side’s determination to remain firmly in the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership title race following a comfortable 2-0 victory over visiting Adamawa Queens at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa on Wednesday.
The Matchday 16 triumph saw Bayelsa Queens deliver a composed and clinical performance, with Sofiat Bankole opening the scoring in 43 minutes before Delight Isaac sealed the win in the 88th minute.
In 27 minutes, a back-pass from the defender of Bayelsa Queens almost got the curtain raiser for Adamawa Queens, but for the quick and sharp reflex of Bayelsa Queens goalkeeper Linda Jiwuaku that made a brilliant save, again in the 33rd minute Adamawa hit the post.
Speaking after the match, coach Iderikumo expressed satisfaction with his team’s execution, emphasizing their focus and discipline throughout the encounter.
“Every game day, we go out there with a plan and the desire to get all three points,” he said.
“Today worked out well for us. It was important to stay calm, remain patient, and take our chances when they came and that’s exactly what we did.”
The Bayelsa Queens coach said he has utmost respect for Adamawa Queens, noting that they are a good side and that the league is very competitive.
“We have to be happy for the victory, but to be sincere, the game was tough,” Iderikumo said.
“The players should continue to believe in themselves and do so with a positive character as the Super Six is fast approaching,” coach George Iderikumo added.
Bayelsa Queens still maintains the top spot in Group A with 34 points following the win.
