Bayelsa Queens draw with Naija Ratels to stay unbeaten

Bayelsa Queens were held to goalless draw in Abuja in a matchday 14 NWFL game on Wednesday 30th April, 2025, a result which maintains their unbeaten record this regular season with the Super Six on the horizon.

It looked like Naija Ratels first-half onslaught might be enough to get a goal, but the Prosperity Girls stood firm in defense.

Bayelsa Queens might have won the game at the death, but a bicycle-kick missed by Mercy Omokwo from a cross from the right flank.

Nevertheless, the draw means the Prosperity Girls have still not lost a game in the regular season against opposition in Group B since January when the league started and leaves them in 34 points to top the table, becoming the only team to complete a top-flight campaign without losing this season.

The result also allowed Bayelsa Queens to extend their run without losing away from home this regular season winning three and drawing four matches.

“Today, I am a happy coach and the team is happy also as we finished the regular season unbeaten and this will definitely spur the team ahead of the Super Six,” said Bayelsa Queens Technical Adviser Whyte Ogbonda said.

“I am proud because I didn’t expect such a performance from Naija Ratels. We didn’t just defend well but we also played good football and created chances,” Coach Whyte said.

“We never let our heads go down and for Naija Ratels, they are a good side and they gave us a scare, getting a draw here is a really well-deserved point,” added Whyte Ogbonda
